Candle Making

Updated: Nov 14, 2020

Candle making is a classic childhood favorite. It has a few different steps and may take a while to cool, so if you are doing this activity in conjunction with the labyrinth start this project at the beginning of the day.

  • Beeswax

  • Slow cooker

  • Wick

  • Scissors

  • Paper cups

  • Hot glue gun

  • Lighter

Melt beeswax in a slow cooker on medium heat until melted

While the wax is heating, cut paper cup in half horizontally. Hot glue the smaller half to the bottom so that the flat side is facing up. This will be the base of your candle.

Paint/decorate your cup as desired and let dry

Tie wick to a pencil and place the pencil over the cup so that the bottom of the wick is touching the bottom of the cup

Pour hot melted wax into cup and sit to let dry

Snip wick to desired length and enjoy your candle!

  • Recognize potentially harmful situations (hot wax, hot glue gun) and seek assistance from facilitator

  • Feelings of confidence that one can accomplish tasks interdependently (not depending on others or stores to do it for them)

  • Observing how elements change over time (hard wax melts to become liquid, forms in the candle, then dries to become hard wax again)
